Thailand All Out to Woo International MICE Delegates
New Experience for Meetings Theme in SynchroniCity
Singapore, 8 October 2004 - All stops will be pulled to show that Thailand is ready to become the international hub for MICE (meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions).
More than 2,000 delegates from 37 countries will be wowed by an extravaganza of sight and sound throughout the opening ceremony and dinner of the 12th IT&CMA (Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings Asia) and 7th CTW (Corporate Travel World) Asia-Pacific shows.
Scheduled on 11 October at the Bangkok Convention Centre, the event will build on the theme of “New Experience for Meetings”. Right from the moment they arrive, international and local guests will be infused with images, cuisine and entertainment of a “SynchroniCity”. The whole function will see a blending of state-of-the-art technology and indigenous artistic elements to showcase Thailand’s charm and uniqueness as a MICE destination.
There will be laser shows as well as special lighting and effects aplenty. Guests will get a real-time broadcast of the dinner preparation in the kitchen by food creator Charlie Amatyakul and simultaneous presentation of the dishes right on the tables.
The evening’s cuisine and entertainment will be a fusion of the modern and classical. Highlights include a performance by popular local group Boy Thai, known for their classical and contemporary music.
“Thailand is indeed proud and excited about unveiling our special evening to let our MICE delegates have a totally new experience in Thailand,” says Peerapong Oeusoonthornwattana, director-general of TCEB (Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau).
With the Thai government’s full support behind it, TCEB was established earlier this year to elevate the scope and standards of the MICE industry in Thailand. TCEB’s role is to facilitate the industry’s capability in organising world-class events in the country by providing marketing, financial and technical support.
Co-located for the first time in Thailand and dubbed the ‘Doublebill’ (two shows in one location), IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific will be held on 12-14 October 2004 at the IMPACT Convention Center. The Doublebill event will carry the movie-world magic and entertainment theme in the show collaterals, venue props and décor, activities and performances.
The shows are supported by the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA) and Thai Airways International.
Doublebill 2004 will host 262 MICE buyers and 104 corporate travel managers, making a total of 366 buyers and travel managers from 37 countries including, for the first-time, MICE buyers from Lebanon and Macedonia. These important buyers and managers will be given the red carpet treatment. They will be flown to Bangkok on Thai Airways, stay in luxury hotels in Bangkok and taken on familiarisation tours in Thailand and her neighbouring countries.
The combined shows will have a total of 300 exhibiting companies from 29 countries in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Europe, UK and US occupying a gross floorspace of 6,000 square metres. National pavilions have increased their participation to accommodate expanded demand from industry suppliers. Thailand leads with the biggest delegation (58 co-exhibitors), followed by Singapore (47 co-exhibitors), Malaysia (30 co-exhibitors), Hong Kong (20 co-exhibitors) and Australia (18 co-exhibitors).
Convention bureaus that are making their debut this year include the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau, Nagoya Convention & Visitors Bureau, Hiroshima Convention & Visitors Bureau, Chiba Convention Bureau, Vienna Convention Bureau, Brunei Tourism and Tourism New Zealand.
Open to trade visitors, the IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific exhibition will be held in Bangkok for the last time before it moves to Pattaya from 11-13 October 2005 and 10-12 October 2006.
